Youth English Society (Y.E.S.) & English Conversation Club

The English Conversation Club of EREV contains 20 to 30 young people who meet weekly to discuss and debate various subjects in English. Past conversation topics have included African Unity, Sexual Harassment, Divorce, Democracy in Senegal, and Gender Issues. Our members include university students, high schoolers, and professionals, all drawn together by the common thread of loving English and wanting to improve their speaking skills. We are also proud to count native English speakers who wish to engage in intercultural exchange amongst our membership base.

Regular meetings are from 17H (5PM) to 19H (7PM) on Friday afternoons. You are welcome to join us if you are interested in English discussion and intercultural exchange.

The club’s passion for English has extended to organizing outside events and projects. On December 5, Conversation Club hosted a screening of the film “Democracy in Dakar” followed by an open mic where various local artists performed. Following the success of the event, the Conversation Club board formed its own association called Y.E.S. (Youth English Society) in January 2010. This organization seeks to promote the English language in Dakar, to work with young students on innovative projects, and to mobilize English students for social action.

Y.E.S. has also formed a partnership with the AFI/UE English Club to motivate youth to learn English and to host events that encourage cross-cultural sharing.
